At this time, most health insurance plans available on the individual market
do not provide coverage for routine maternity coverage. However,
if you have complications with your delivery, your policy will cover those
expenses just as if you were hospitalized for any other illness.
However,
for families that do desire coverage for routine maternity expenses, a few
carriers do offer an optional maternity coverage rider that will
pay expenses related to a routine childbirth. Complications of pregnancy
will normally be covered like any other illness, regardless of whether or
not you have maternity coverage. Maternity coverage is only available
on a few plans at an additional cost. If you do not have maternity
coverage, your related medical expenses can still be paid from your HSA,
thus effectively making them tax deductible.
At
this time, World Insurance Company offers
maternity coverage. The maternity benefit must be purchased before
you become pregnant, and may be dropped at any time.
Maternity
Coverage
Maternity
riders are available with all World plans.
The way the coverage works is very simple. You will have a $2500 maternity
specific deductible, or a $5000 if utilizing out of network providers.
This rider is only available on individual plans with a deductible of $2900
or less, or family plans with a deductible of $7500 or less.
The
monthly cost to add this optional rider is added to your monthly insurance
premium. Since quotes vary by age and residence, and are not presently
available online, you will need to call one of our expert advisors at 866-749-2045
to obtain the exact cost of adding this coverage.
If
you do add a Maternity rider to your World Insurance policy, you pay only
the $2500 deductible for a maternity claim, including prenatal care all
the way through delivery. You then receive 100% coverage after the
deductible is met. This limits your expenses for maternity care to
the amount of your maternity deductible.
